The weed has so far covered the entire Winam Gulf hampering lake activities.

Agulu Environmental Network members stormed the office of the Governor to register their displeasure over the presence of the weed in the lake.

The Network's Executive Director Bernard Odinga said Ranguma had promised to allocate Sh100 million in the budget to help in the removal of the weed.

Odinga questioned how the funds were utilized if indeed it was factored into the budget of the first Financial Year Ranguma was sworn into office.

“The weed is being used to swindle money, we must be given accountability on how funds allocated towards eradication of the weed have been used,” he said.

Addressing the press at the gate of Huduma Centre on Thursday after failing to meet the Governor, Odinga said transport in the lake and border trade has been paralyzed.

He further questioned the whereabouts of the machine bought to harvest the hyacinth.

Odinga said the county used millions of shillings to purchase the machine and must be put into use to free the lake of the stubborn weed.

Fishermen recently abandoned fishing and sent out a plea to the county government to enroll them into an emergency stipend.
