Deputy President William Ruto may be controversial at times when it comes to political rallies and campaigns.
In 2007, despite warning from Simon Nyachae, a defiant Ruto, then rallying for ODM leader Raila Odinga, held a mega rally in the famous Nyamarambe grounds in South Mugirango.
While addressing a mammoth crowd, suspected outlawed Chinkororo sect members unleashed on the attendees with Ruto being among the casualty.
Having been stabbed by an arrow, furious Chinkororo members were determined to have the then Eldoret North MP killed.
And sensing a real danger, former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, then the ODM treasurer, rushed and held the injured Ruto.
With the help of his supporters, Omingo managed to successfully evacuate the DP to a waiting helicopter which rushed him to Niarobi for treatment.
Omingo, who would later lose in a by-elections after winning the 2007 election, in currently the chairman to CMD. He shortly served as an assistant minister during the grand coalition government.
For the last two elections, Omingo has lost Kisii senatorial elections even after his PDP party winning several MCA seats in Kisiia nd Nyamira Counties.
