Lugari residents on Friday received mosquito nets from the Ministry of Health, in an initiative aimed at curbing malaria.

Hundreds flocked selected collection centers to pick up the nets after the exercise was officially launched by the Sub County Medical officer of Health, Dr. Isaiah Wanyonyi Walela.

The MOH said that the distribution exercise will run for five days starting on Friday until Tuesday next week at 68 selected collection centres within the two districts. “The collection centers are at all the health centers and some selected schools within the two districts,” said the officer.

Mrs. Celine Makokha, who is the Sub County Malaria Control Coordinator for, asked the chiefs and their assistants together with community health works to sensitize area residents on the importance and proper usage of the nets.

An official from Lugari Sub County Education Office, Mr. Kennedy Masingu, lauded the initiative saying that it will reduce cases of malaria among school going pupils and students and therefore boost their school attendance in the Sub County.
