Jerusha Momanyi a parent interviewed by Hivisasa on Thursday said they were unable to beat the deadline due to the long queues that have been witnessed in various Huduma centers and at the office of the registry of persons.

"I hope by the end of the period we shall have all recieved the vital document," she said.

Another parent, Vincent Mogeni said he managed to get his child’s birth certificate after making a follow up for more than five days and thanked the Government for being considerate enough to extend the dates.

Their sentiments come at a time the  Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang said in consultation with other stakeholders they had noted that the process had been slowed down by the fact that most learners were yet to acquire birth certificates required for registration.

He explained that the rationale for the exercise is to test the electronic preparedness of all schools (e-readiness) ahead of the full rollout of the NEMIS countywide.

The Principal Secretary added the exercise is to assess the capability of each school to host a functioning computer platform and have Internet connectivity.

“The data capture exercise also is to find out if school staff possess adequate computer skills to navigate the system,” he said, and urged all stakeholders to take advantage of the extended period to ensure that data on all learners is captured.
