The Ministry of Agriculture has urged institutions with idle lands to surrender to the government so that the land can be used to enhance food production.
According to CS Willy Bett, there is no point for Kenyans to continue starving while there are huge lands lying idle.
Even though Kenya is not a communist country, Agriculture CS Wily Bett has Wednesday hinted to the need of a government-controlled land programme that will see the government cultivate, plant, and harvest crops for the benefit of Kenyans facing hunger and starvation.
Speaking when he during a tour at KEPHIS in Muguga Kiambu County the CS called not on agricultural sector stakeholders across the country to join in concerted efforts to ensure food security in the country.
“Kenya should now move from traditional agriculture to Argo-business to do that, it is going to involve all stakeholders from experts to the human resource so that Kenya can achieve the target of being food secure by the year 2022,” said CS Bett.
Bett, however, urged parliamentary Committee on Agriculture to also play their role in ensuring more funding is tailored toward the agricultural sector for sustainability.
Moreover, he put on notice farmers who are fond of hiking the price of Maize from the required price set by the government.
Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Inchung'wa who is the Chairman of Budgetary Committee in parliament, accompanying the saying said that he will support in ensuring more budgetary allocation in the ministry. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kiambu that you want Hivisasa to cover?
