The Ministry of Health has enhancedpublic health capacities to prevent, detect and control any incidences ofdiarrheal diseases, following the outbreak of Cholera disease.
In a press statement, Cabinet Secretary DrCleopa Mailu said the number of reported cholera cases has reduced.
“We wish toinform the public that since the inception of interventions and directives, thecountry has registered significant reduction in the number of new Cholera casesreported daily from 60 to 35,” said Dr Mailu on Tuesday.
The Cabinet Secretary said theMinistry, in collaboration with other stakeholders, has enhanced public healthcapacities to prevent, detect and control any incidences of diarrheal diseases.
These include; Mapping of theareas affected by the Cholera outbreak to inform effective management.
A total of six (6) functionalCholera Treatment Centers (CTCs) have been stablished in Huruma Lions, Mukurukwa Reuben (Reuben Center), Riruta Health Center, Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital,Mbagathi Hospital and Mukuru Health Center (Mukuru kwa Njenga).
All affectedpersons are strongly advised to visit the aforementioned centers nearest totheir residence for advice and management.
More than 500,000chlorine tablets and 4 drums of chlorine liquid have been distributed toenhance water treatment at the household level and at all water sources.
Dr Mailu saidthat in order to kick Cholera out of the Nairobi City and the affectedcounties, the public must continuously observe personal hygiene, obtain waterfrom safe sources and practice household water treatment.
“Members ofthe public are requested to seek free treatment at the aforementioned centers anytimethey fall sick for diarrheal related illnesses. These centers have been designatedto reduce the spread of the disease, promote prompt treatment and management ofcases for better health outcomes,” he said.
