According to PS Mariamu El Maawy, land matters in the country need to be sorted out before the next general election to avert tension and conflict.

‘We have noted with concern that information getting to the common mwananchi regarding land issues are sometimes contradicting because we have not synchronised our working. There is need to harmonise our services because all of us want to serve Kenyans effectively. This unity in working will also simplify the process of closure because we shall be able to identify the thematic areas to be worked on,’ said the PS.

She spoke Monday morning when she paid a courtesy call to Nakuru County Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto in his office at the county headquarters.

She also mentioned that the ministry will deploy 15 teams of officers to be dedicated to different counties who will work with the locals in registration of different lands.

Multiple identification of titles and forgeries are the key thematic areas the teams will also address while working with the county officers, Mariamu added.

The DG on his part reiterated the need to address land matters in the county with urgency.

He noted the many pending land issues in Nakuru including the Mau caveats, Ruyobei, Oljorai, Banita and Barina farms among others might be a source of conflict.

‘If we work together we shall solve these issues before the next elections. This will ease the tension that land issues bring especially during campaign times and we all know its sensitivity,’ Ruto said.

The deputy governor also called on the ministry to be fair in issuance of title deeds saying all communities should feel involved and satisfied with the process.

The PS was leading a team to Molo to issue title deeds to residents.

Other leaders present were MPs Jacob Macharia (Molo), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and Naivasha's John Kihagi- Naivashaas well as MCAs among other county officers.
