Agriculture CS has stated that the government would soon establish Export Processing Zones across the counties as a show of commitment to providing market access to the thousands of local livestock farmers.
Speaking on Tuesday, CS Willy Bett expressed his satisfaction with the progressive works at the Bachuma LEPZ, saying the project will have massive impact on the country’s economy after it is completed.
As this unfolds, the government has announced tha it has pumped a massive Sh372 million in constructing physical infrastructure including fifteen modern cattle sheds for cattle and small livestock, holding pens, roads and boreholes.
According to the ministry's plans, Bachuma LEPZ will occupy approximately 15,000 acres and will contain special quarantine zones for screening of animals, several abattoirs and loading bays for parking export animals into trucks.
The project will have a holding capacity of 9,000 heads of cattle and 6,000 sheep. Currently, only 200 acres have been utilised to construct the initial infrastructure.
