The Transport Permanent Secretary Eng John Mosonik has fired a warning of arrest to hawkers along major highways across the country.
Mosonik, while speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday said the government will take action against those found hawking along major highways, those on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway hawkers included.
He said those selling their wares and have also constructed kiosks besides the road at Salgaa will be arrested if they don't comply with the new order.
“We have lost many lives through accidents that can be avoided and we are now warning people not to trade along any highway. They should also bring down the structures built along the highway such as those ones at Salgaa,” he said.
The new order, according to the PS, is geared towards saving lives which have been lost when cars veer off the road and kill people doing business along the road.
He said the government is keen on ensuring all persons are safe and it can only happen if hawkers selling along the highways and have constructed kiosks along major roads comply with the new order.
