Cabinet secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru has stated that the government is going to centralize procurement of all its ICT equipment in the next financial year.
Addressing business leaders from technology sector in Nairobi, Mucheru said that the government will in the next two months control all the procurement of ICT equipment in all agencies and ministries.
"The first mandate we have is in creating an efficient government where we have the right tools and infrastructure in place and one of the first directives is that all ICT procurement goes through the ministry of ICT, from printers to laptops, everything that is ICT related will go through the ministry of ICT" said Mucheru.
The move is to see billions of procurement budgets move to ICT authority which is under the ministry of ICT.
The Parliament's Budget and Appropriations Committee had earlier this year recommended that ICT ministry is to take over the management of e-citizen platform that went live in 2014 allowing Kenyans to get government services like passports, business registration online.
The CS insisted that the plan was going to see local service providers and vendors invited to bid in a fair manner.
It will also be easier for bidders to interact with the government
