The Ministry of Health has introduced a new training plan in partnership with the United States Centre for Disease Control to reinforce Public Health Management Capacity.

Speaking on Monday June 20, at the Kenya School of Government, the Head Directorate of Standard, Quality Assurance and Regulations, Dr Pacifica Onyancha who spoke on behalf of the Health PS Dr Nicholas Muraguri observed that the need for skilled work force is a critical component of functional public health systems.

“It is only through skilled management, that research, theory, and scientific innovation can be translated into successful public health action, efficiency and effective running of programs, for us to win the battle against infectious diseases, environmental threats, chronic conditions and emerging and reemerging diseases,” Dr Onyancha said.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Improving Public Health Management for Action Training dubbed (IMPACT) makes Kenya the first country in Africa and second country in the world to pioneer such training approach with managerial competencies in the event of local and global health threats such as Ebola and Zika virus outbreak.
