Kenya National Union of Teachers Chepkoilel Branch (KNUT) Chepkoilel Branch Sammy Bor has urged the national government through the Ministry of Education to ensure every student has a textbook for effective learning.
He said they support the move by the government of supplying textbooks to schools but they only take issue with the student to book ratio.
“If we get assurance from the government that every student will be in possession of a textbook we will not have a problem but if its contrary we will not allow. We want our children to get quality and not quantity education,” he said in Eldoret on Monday.
“We want at least 1 textbook per student or worse 1 textbook per 2 students. This will enhance effective learning,” he added.
On the transfer of principal, Bor said Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should consult teachers union before transferring teachers.
“I know it’s their mandate to hire, fire, transfer and discipline teachers but they should consult before making any transfers since its making teachers suffer since they are taken away from their families,” noted Bor.
