The boy, who said that he belongs to a gang of seven other boys, further revealed that they are used by a killer gang in the town that is said to be notorious in terrorising the residents.

The boy said that their work is to 'survey' first for the gang before it can carry out the robbery. He added that before joining the gang, one has to take an oath.

"We are first given salty water to drink then we are given blood which we take round our heads for three times", said the minor.

The boy said the gang use crude weapons like machetes to carry out the robberies. He was on a mission to pre-plan a barber shop robbery when he was caught.

"It was late at night when the boy came calling but we became suspicious. We almost fell for the trap because the gang was around," James Wainana, the barber said.

Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira has said that the boy is assisting the police with investigations.
