Miraa sellers in Laini saba area have expressed their frustrations over what they cited as harassment by area administration police.
The sellers claim that the police officers cause a lot of harm to their business by demanding bribes, failure to which, the officers make unlawful arrests.
The miraa base dwellers also lamented that the security officers have gone further to assert that their trade commodity and that no one should be found idling around the selling points. It is said that any customer or a group of customers found seated while chewing the herb, will be charged up to sh3, 000 as a way of purchasing their freedom.
The sellers, who talked anonymously for fear of victimisation, said they are law abiding citizens and they fail to understand why the police, who are supposed to protect citizens, are preying on them. One of the emotional sellers said they may be forced to close their small businesses which their families solely depend on if the frustrations from the security officers persist.
They are now calling on people of good will to help them address the issue, especially their area politicians, so as to enable them to fend for their families without further harassment.
