Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko has condemned the alleged assassination attempt on Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho following the disruption of an ODM rally in Migori on Monday. Speaking to journalists, Mboko called upon Kenyans to exercise political tolerance, adding that this is a democratic nation governed by a Constitution. “We have to embrace democracy,” she said, as quoted by the Star. The legislator also said that what took place in Migori is not only barbaric but also shows high level of hooliganism.Joho also condemned the attack, arguing that the chaos were politically driven.“We believe that the events of today are part of a growing pattern of the politically motivated attacks and intolerance that we have witnessed in recent days even though until today, those attacks have mostly been verbal,” read Joho's statement to newsrooms.Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) national elections board also rebuked persons behind the attack, adding that security officers should arrest and prosecute the suspects. The board also said that cases of violence are likely to cost the party in the August polls."We have had violence in Migori and as a party; we cannot afford to be chaotic. If one is found to have committed such an offense, it will lead to disqualification," said Judy Pareno, the board's chairperson.
