Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko on Monday denied claims that she was involved in rigging of the August 2017 General Elections.

Ms Mboko was testifying in a Mombasa Court in a petition filed by former Likoni MP Mwahima Masoud Mwalimu who is challenging her election.

Ms Mboko told the court that she did not manipulate the results of Likoni constituency during the August polls.

The MP was also being accused that some of her agents were allegedly involved in bribing voters to vote in her favour but she denied the allegations in court.

The court had heard that some of Ms Mboko’s agents during the election day were arrested and booked at Inuka police station in Likoni but the MP said she is not aware of the arrests.

The petitioner, Mr Masoud had claimed that two of her agents were arrested and charged in a Mombasa court for alleged voter bribing and Ms Mboko had secured their release.

Ms Mboko told the court that she was declared the winner after she got majority of the votes cast during the elections.

Mr Masoud had moved to court seeking orders to have Ms Mboko’s election nullified over irregularities and discrepancies.
