It seems university students have found a new way of making money through betting on the ongoing with the ongoing World Cup matches in Russia.
Amos Kipyator, a serial loser in the game admitted that since the beginning of World Cup, betting for him and most of his colleagues have turned from worse to better.
The third-year student pursuing bachelor's degree in education at Kisii University, Eldoret campus said on Friday, in a game between Nigeria and Iceland, he decided to place a Sh16,350 bet on penalty missed with odds of 12.5.
"I realised that most penalties had been awarded and so I decided to check on the market and when I found out that odds of 12.5 had been given against the penalty missed, I was shocked and so I place with 16,350 that I had won," he narrated.
Kipyator who said was following the game live recounted how at one point he almost fainted when a foul was committed in the penalty area and the referee only waved play on.
It was not until the 81st minute when Tyronne Ebuehi from Nigeria conceded a penalty for tripping Alfred Finnbogason to which the referee after consultation with VAR gave a penalty.
And it was all joy for Kipyator after Everton midfield maestro Gylfi Sigurdsson missed converting from the penalty spot.
The miss earned him a whooping Sh204,375 which he said was the highest amount he has ever won in a bet.
He is playing to use the cash to pay his fees and rent and deposit the remaining in the savings account as he plans on where to invest in.
