Grief and panic gripped Kabati estate in Naivasha, after the body of six-year old boy who had been missing for a week was found in an underground water tank.
Emotions ran high as the body of the boy identified as Joel Kemboi was retrieved from the tank that was half filled with water.
It was unclear if the boy fell into the tank or was dumped there as police moved in to investigate the case.
Following the discovery, irate members of the public moved in to demolish the unfinished house accusing the owner of negligence.
They noted that the uncovered water tank posed a threat to members of the public, adding that a week ago a cow fell in the tank and drowned.
According the minor's father Francis Juma, their son was playing with other children outside their house near Guest Inn hotel on Thursday last week when he disappeared.
Juma, a local welder noted that it was still unclear how the boy went missing adding that efforts to trace him had been futile.
"We were shocked today when we were called by some neighbours and found our missing son floating inside the tank," said Juma.
Nominated MCA Esther Njeri, who visited the scene condemned the owner of the unfinished house for failing to cover the tank.
She noted that the county government would issue a directive over the high number of uncompleted structures in Naivasha.
"The structures are an eye-sore and are also harboring criminals and its time the county government took action," said Njeri.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident saying that the body had been collected and taken to the area mortuary waiting for proper investigation.
