On behalf of Governor Ali Hassan Joho, Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi officially opened the 21st Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) AGM being held in the coastal County Mombasa from Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
Joho has been absent since early March.
The AGM brings together proprietors and directors of various private schools across the country.
"As stakeholders, we acknowledge and appreciate the role these schools play in moulding our children into better citizens through the quality of education offered in such schools," said Kingi.
However, he said there was need to produce all rounded students who are not only academic sound but are also equipped with good morals and character.
"And we hope that the new curriculum will go a long way towards meeting this noble goal of producing all round graduates equipped with the skills and know-how to harness talents and abilities."
This year's AGM is 'Transformational Leadership For Quality Private Schools'.
The DG said the theme of is not only relevant but also timely as it calls on all players to show leadership and transformational ability in partaking the challenging role of successfully implementing the new curriculum.
"It will require a consolidated effort of all stakeholders to achieve this," said Kingi in a Mombasa hotel.
He later affirmed participants that the County government of Mombasa will continue to support the development of private schools since they provide for learners and create more avenues for employment of the people.
"We welcome your contribution to our Education sector and in the expansion of Mombasa economy."
