Speaking on Thursday, Joseph Njuguna who is the Uasin Gishu Livestock Director told the press that chicks are usually kept in very small boxes for a long time even in very hot conditions without food or water.

"Most vendors and hawkers are violating the animal law and this is why we have decided to issue a warning that any person caught violating the animal laws will be prosecuted and even jailed," Njuguna said.

Njuguna added that the minimum fine that such a person will pay is Sh 500.

"It is high time that the people of Eldoret get to know the bylaws which include animal laws. Animals also need to be cared for just like human beings," Njuguna said.

Njuguna urged the people to start poultry farming since conditions in the town are very good for poultry farming.

"The number of farmers who are rearing poultry in this county is increasing and I urge others to also venture into this type of farming," Njuguna said.
