Commuters traveling to Machakos from Tala town are celebrating the drastic fall of fares to the county’s capital after Mita Sacco, which recently secured a license for the route slashed fares from Sh250 to Sh50.
The fare reduction, according to Mita Sacco chairman David Makau was arrived at after a consultation with matatus owners in the Sacco, which is in competition with the dominant Makata Sacco that has been enjoying monopoly in the lucrative route.
The unbelievable scenario left many commuters with their mouths wide open, with several market goers opting for ‘joyride trips’ to Machakos town.
Speaking to journalists at Tala Bus Park on Wednesday, Mr Makau asked commuters to take advantage of the fare reduction in order to reduce the cost of doing business between the two key towns.
