Residents of Miwani village in Lower Kiandani Sub-County Machakos County have raised their concern over increased insecurity in the area.
The villagers have expressed their fear saying the armed gang steals and terrorises residents during the night.Speaking to one of the residents Mutua Kaindi stated the gang has caused death and harmed several residents in the past few months.
"We are living in fear of the gang that is armed and has been terrorising business people and breaking into houses. Severally they have shot dead people who refused to coorperate," said Kaindi.
Narrating her fear, Caroline Munyiva an owner of a hardware shop who lives in one of the rental houses said business has been deteriorating as she closes her shop at 5 o'clock for fear of attack.
"We experience gun shots each and every night, I cannot sell upto 8.00pm in the evening like I used to do for fear I might be approched by gunmen. Secondly after five everyone is heading home so I am left with no customers," she added.
The residents have asked the police officers to conduct a disarmament program to ensure no one has unlicensed guns.
The youth have also been disadvantaged as they head home early unlike previously when they would seat at a field waiting for customers or job opportunities.
They have decried relaxation of Police officers in Miwani police post and the community policy that is at the heart of the market where the terrorists have been on the increase.
