Kenyans have expressed varied opinions following the election of former Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka as the Senate's speaker.Lusaka replaced former speaker Ekwe Ethuro after beating him during the Thursday election. While some have congratulated him, others have criticised him for being corrupt.
This follows an incident where his county government spent Sh1 million to purchase 10 wheelbarrows when he was the governor.Lusaka was fronted for the post by President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party:Below are some mixed reactions from twitter users:"@misssKenyatta: Ken Lusaka elected as Senate Speaker... Kenyans, this love for thieves is deep.@EugeneLWamalwa: Congratulations My brother Ken Lusaka upon your election as the 2nd Speaker of the Senate of the Republic of Kenya!@Ireri_TheOne: So Ken Lusaka a.k.a Mr. Non-Carcinogenic Wheelbarrows is now Senate Speaker! Who bewitched Kenya?? @RobertAlai: But Ken Lusaka is the wrong person as Senate speaker. VERY WRONG!!!@jumaf3: It is fascinating how mediocrity is rewarded in Kenya. Ken Lusaka rejected by voters over non-carcinogenic wheelbarrows, rewarded by senators!"
