Nyamira residedents have reacted variably following the decision by a court sitting in Nyamira to order for vote recount in gubernatorial petition.

According to some of the locals interviewed, the move is geared towards frustrating Governor John Nyagarama in favour of his main opponent Walter Nyambati.

Edwin Mong’are, a resident in Sironga, said that they  believe the recount will be done in a free and fair manner and above all they hope Jubilee have not tampered with the voting materials that were used to award Governor Nyagarama victory.

“We are certain that Jubilee is highly using Nyambati to frustrate our able governor John Nyagarama through ordering a recount of the votes that we believe he won genuinely and now we hope the election materials were not tampered with," said Mong’are

Another resident from Konate, Irene Kemunto, said that the ruling was fair enough to ensure that there is transparency in any election that is held and that will make politicians in the future avoid any uncouth methods to win.

“If Nyagarama won genuinely am sure he will still be the winner but if he didn’t then am sure that he will lose the case to Nyambati."

Their reactions comes barely a day after Justice James Makau said he is satisfied with the evidence given by the seven petitioners’ witnesses hence ordered for a voter recount in 90 polling stations.
