Some Kenyans supported the move by Mr Omtatah while others opposed the activist who said that the notes should be replaced with those that do not bear the image of an individual.

“The CBK should publicly declare that it will, with immediate effect, begin withdrawing all unconstitutional currency notes and coins from circulation,” he said.

According to the constitution, it prohibits the use of portraits or images of individuals on currency. The constitution states that notes and coins should only bear images that depict or symbolize an aspect of Kenya.

Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans on social media:

@AugustineAlanga Activist Okiya Omtatah Okoiti will go down in history as an epitome of proactively responsible citizen.

@Colyan5 This one will take decade to change though it’s a nice idea but seems tricky.

@owaluka one day Okiya Omtatah OKOITI will file case against himself but my brother keeping on asking for implementation of our constitution.

@Crowned_hustler I support Okiya Omtatah’s move to remove Kenyatta from currency. He is not a symbol of national unity or anything good for that matter
