A section of residents from Eldoret town, the capital of Uasin Gishu county have hailed a surprise meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Some of the residents who spoke to Hivisasa.com moments after the meeting took place at the Harambee House, Nairobi on Friday said the move will help end dissent among Kenyans who had been divided into political lines since the disputed August 8 poll and repeat October 26 Presidential election.
Collins Vidolo, a NASA supporter from Turbo constituency expressed delight after the two leaders publicly shook hands.
"If the two can talk over a cup of tea then who are we not to work together as Kenyans?" said Vidolo.
Similar sentiments were shared by several other Jubilee allied locals who said the move will go a long way towards uniting Kenyans.
'The handshake will definitely bring peace and unity among all Kenyan tribes especially after the disputed electioneering period,: said Jonah Kemei.
However, not all locals were happy with the two leaders meeting as some National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters in the county expressed their disappointment.
'We really had high hopes for you Raila that you will deliver us to Canaan, now Canaan has turned to a handshake,' said Clarence Ochieng.
