The move by Nyeri town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu to petition the of removal Chief Justice David Maraga has been received with mixed reaction by local residents of Kisii town.
In an interview with one of the locals said Ngunjiri is a Jubilee government project meant to intimidate the leadership of Maraga and it's high time leaders from Gusii region stand as one to defend him.
Joseph Mogere a trader in Kisii said that the legislator’s move was political and there was a need for the MP to know that Maraga’s decision was not personal but was backed up by other judges.
“We will stand with Maraga and those trying to intimidate him should stop and let him do his job,” he added.
Another Kisii resident Irene Mbaka said the Mp has the right to petition the removal of the chief justice if there was a need to.
“I won’t defend Maraga if he has any office misconduct but we have laws that will define if he is guilty,” she added.
The MP filed a petition on Thursday morning and said Maraga must be removed from office over alleged 'gross misconduct' following the presidential petition ruling.
