Mixed reactions have emerged from a section of Gusii people following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s prerecorded interview that was aired through Egesa FM on Monday.
Uhuru was taken to task by celebrated presenter Sorobi Moturi as he seized the opportunity to highlight a number of achievements attained by his government to the region.
However, the interview has attracted sharp criticism and support on equal measure with some residents terming the interview timely.
“There was nothing wrong with the president addressing us on our favorite radio station," said Jackson Marube.
"We got to learn some of his plans for the region and the number of things he has done,” he added.
His sentiments were supported by Ms Ann Nyakweba who said the President was justified to interact with members of Abagusii community to answer critical questions regarding development.
“I think the interview was properly planned because we were asked to raise our questions and they were answered," said Nyakweba.
"It’s always right for leaders to interact with the electorates to know immediate needs,” she added.
However some rebuked the President’s interview saying it was stage-managed to hoodwink residents as part of PR tactics to woo the community for 2017 general election.
“The interview was a total sham because it was clearly stage managed to hoodwink people. We know how he has failed our region and now he has reverted to PR just because 2017 is around the corner,” said Alex Mageto.
ODM Nyamira Youth League leader Dennis Marube also accused the president of failing to reach electorates in person to hear their needs.
“The interview was just a waste of time. As the president, he hasn’t come to the people and interact with them to know what they need. He only uses proxies who normally mislead him,” he said.
