Mount Kenya University has today announced plans to help farmers shift from subsistence farming to agribusiness.
Speaking at MKU main campus in Thika, Associate Dean in the school of business and economics Dr Emma Anyika revealed that the programme intends to impart agribusiness skills among farmers.
“Farmers will learn how to deal with plants and plant products in terms of adding value to their products,” she said.
The two phased programme consists of a thorough two weeks classroom training at the Mount Kenya University and a practical session in key botanical gardens and farms where farmers are evaluated to determine if they can utilize their skills in real life problems.
Dr Anyika said that plants were chosen because they have been seen as a means of boosting food security.
The programme is a partnership between MKU, CITI entrepreneurship
