Mount Kenya University members of staff in collaboration with the school of medicine have joined together in a campaign to fight cancer within the institution.
The campaign is aimed at creating awareness to both the students and members of the staff before extending corporate section of the institution.
One of the staff members from the mass communication department Joash Onsare says that this is a step towards having a cancer free institution and a cancer free country. He said that they have a responsibility to the media students to reach out to other members of the institution through their public relations skills.
“By starting our campaigns at the university level, it is going to reach out to many people as university students are seen as mentors to the younger generation in high school and primary school. The university students also have a say in the society since they form part of the elites of the society so by the campaign we are double sure to reach out to many people and not necessarily only those within this institution,” Onsare stated.
The campaign will last for a week and any person participating in the campaign will adorn a pink ribbon through the campaign period.
