Mlolongo Chief David Kilonzo has lauded locals for taking security as a personal responsibility.
Briefing journalists on Thursday, Kilonzo said security has improved in the village, attributing the good relationship between law enforcers and residents.
The chief added that youth leaders in the area have been mobilising people on importance of having good relations with law enforcers.
“Our area has seen reduction in crime in the past three months,” said Kilonzo.
The chief said that the introduction of Nyumba Kumi security measures has helped much in the fight against crime.
"Our security will improve much if the residents will continue embracing the Nyumba Kumi initiative,” notes the chief.
Kilonzo further urged residents to support security measures that are being implemented by the county government.
The chief promised to work with other leaders to ensure the village is well protected.
Elsewhere, police have launched investigations into the cause of the fire that razed over 20 houses in Ngwata estate, Mlolongo on Tuesday night.
The midnight fire left over 100 people homeless and destroyed property worth thousands of shillings.
According to police preliminary investigations, the inferno could have been caused by a cooking stove.
