A 24-year-old woman allegedly set her children on fire before attempting suicide in the same manner at Mlolongo town in Athi River Sub-County on Monday.
Police say the woman identified as Jecinter Kali locked the door to her house from the inside before pouring kerosene on her two children, Nzinza (7) and Kitheka and set them ablaze.
Mlolongo assistant county commissioner, Obed Mose, who spoke to this writer at his office said Kali then in the same fashion poured kerosene on herself in an attempt to commit suicide.
Mose said the woman allegedly committed the crime when her husband whom she had just reunited with.
He said the couple had reportedly been having a troubled relationship before the incident occurred.
"Neighbors who noticed smoke coming from the house at night broke in to save the woman and her children who were already burning," he said.
He said they managed to rescue the three who had seriously burns before putting out the fire and called police from the Mlolongo Police Station who took them to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.
Mose said the three died at the hospital on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
