A section of chemist operators and private clinic owners in Mlolongo, Machakos county have decried harrassment by health officials.
The operators say that they are allegedly being harased by medical officers from Machakos.
They said that despite having required documents, they are being harrased and sometimes forced to giveout money.
Marion Kathini, a pharmacy operator told HiviSaSa.Com that they are being harassed over unknown reasons.
“They often storm our shops and demand to see our papers and sometimes demand bribes,” she alleged.
Kathini said that some of the operators are arrested and later released after giving out bribes.
The pharmacy operator urged the government to investigate and take action against those involved.
Kathini said that they are now being froced to close down their businesses for fear of being harassed and victimized.
Commenting on the allegations, area district medical officer Bob Kilonzo said they will launch investigation immidiately to determine the truth.
Mr Kilonzo asked those who have been victimized to report to the police saying that action will be taken against them.
The district medical officer asked private clinics and pharmacy shops to register their business to avoid falling in the wrong hand of the law.
He said that plans are underway to crackdown on those allegedly selling fake medicine and equipment.
