Residents have been burning waste as a way of reducing it whereby they blamed the Mavoko sub-county administration for failing to collect the garbage.

While speaking to this writer, one resident Moses Mutiso condemned the Mavoko sub-county administration for neglecting its duties whereby he pointed out that the garbage has been lying there for more than 2 weeks something that has been polluting the environment.

"We feel neglected by the Mavoko sub-county administration as it's not doing its job. We are surrounded by garbage everywhere as the lorry that is supposed to be picking the garbage doesn't pick anymore so we have to take other measures like burning the waste so as to reduce it," said Mr Mutiso.

The residents further pointed out that they want a long lasting solution because burning the garbage also pollutes the environment and can also bring health complications whereby they urged the Machakos County government to intervene so as to ensure they live in a conducive environment.

"We are aware that burning the garbage is not the best solution but we have no otherwise but look for other methods to reduce the waste before this place turns into a dump site like Dandora, so we would love to appeal to our county government to intervene and collect the garbage, added another resident Julian Nzioka.

Their sentiments were echoed by Kennedy Odhiambo who is a NEMA official Machakos county who urged residents to stop burning the garbage and use other ways like recycling to reduce the garbage.
