According to Njoro Police Boss Patrick Lai, Ezekiel Mwangi was found in possession of a mobile phone that had been reported lost at a bar in Njoro town on Monday evening before mob descended on him.

The Police Boss during a brief to this writer in his office on Tuesday said that the mob that had been drinking at the bar mobilised other members of the public in beating up the suspect but he miraculously escaped through the back yard of the building as the mob threatened to lynch him.

“The owner of the bar told police officers who were on patrol that the suspect was beaten up by a mob after one of the patrons in the bar identified a phone the suspect had in possession as his. They threatened to lynch him but somehow, he escaped from the scene through the backyard of the bar with serous injuries,’’ said the Police Boss adding that police received news that a young man had been found dead near the banks of Njoro River later on Tuesday.

According to Lai, residents and relatives identified the dead as Ezekiel Mwangi who had escaped from a mob justice on Tuesday evening before the mutilated body was ferried by police to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital. He added that the dead suspect worked as a tout in the area.
