Residents of Lukala village in Sirisia, Bungoma county killed a man and his daughter for allegedly bewitching a boy who had just been circumcised.
The 78-year-old man and his daughter Dina Nasike, 40 years old were on Saturday, August 13, beaten to death in separate incidents after neighbours accused them of uttering words which allegedly caused the death of 12-year-old Amos Wanjala, who developed weird complications and died a week after undergoing circumcision.
“Wanjala developed complications three days later and was rushed to Bungoma referral hospital and then to Moi in Eldoret. Doctors said that the boy was not sick after tests were done,” a resident who witnessed the event is quoted by the Star newspaper as saying.
The elderly man’s wife is reported to have escaped the wrath of the irate mob after she was rescued by the area chief and taken to the nearby administration police camp.
Villagers alleged that it was not the first time the three had used charms to kill enemies, claims that were strongly refuted by a brother to the slain man.
Addressing journalists after the incident, aArea parliamentary aspirant Moses Nandalwe condemned the incident asking them to report such matters to police instead of taking the law into their hands.
