A 17-year-old student was on Monday night lynched at Gathumbi village in Kihuro sub-county, Murang'a by a mob after he allegedly defiled a girl and thereafter strangled her to death.
The student is said to have lured the 12-year-old girl into his bedroom from where he raped her before killing her using a necktie.
The student from Gutito Secondary School was lynched after the body of the girl was found in his bedroom after the family searched for her for hours.
The girl's mother Scholastica Wambui said the pupil had been sent to a nearby shop by her sister when she met the student.
"Other children told us that the child was seen in the man’s company and that he had invited her to his house,” Wambui said as quoted by Radio Jambo.
The students are claimed to have asked the girl to help him carry a luggage he was carrying to his house as other children waited at the roadside.
He, after some time, told the children the girl had used another route and left.
Neighbors said the student's father commanded him to give away his house's keys. That's when the girl's boy was recovered.
Area OCPD David Kandie said residents beat the student before burning him beyond recognition.
