The man, identified as Bugesi Okero, is said to have committed the offense in West Mugirango, Nyamira County.

Speaking after arriving at the scene, Nyamira South OCPD Riko Ngare warned residents against taking part in mob justice, as it is a crime punishable by law.

Richard Tai, the victim's brother, said Okero had been living with his two kids aged five and three, after separating from his wife six months ago.

“I got a call from a neighbour that all was not well at home. On reaching our village, I found my brother trying to run away. He was, however, overpowered by angry villagers, who killed him and set his body ablaze,” said Tai, as quoted by the Nation.

Tai said his brother had also demolished their parent's home, adding that he had been behaving strangely in the recent past.

The body was taken to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
