More than 7,000 persons have registered for the National Identity Cards and voters' cards in Thika in the mobile registration exercise launched last week by the area MP and Commissioner.
Thika Registrar of Persons Mr Jacob Kang'utu, speaking to this writer on phone on Friday, said that the youths have recorded the highest turnout in the exercise.
He added that they have been going ward to ward and in the location levels so as to reach as many persons as possible. Members of the public have welcomed the move by the MP as they are registering in high numbers.
Mr Kang'utu called on those who are not registered to ensure they take advantage of the opportunity and register for the cards as the exercise will be done from the offices after the completion of the mobile exercise.
"This is a favour and everyone should be in a position of taking advantage of it. Some are still ignoring the registration and I want to urge them to consider turning out now that we are out in the grassroots before we move back to our offices," he said.
He, however, decried the delay from the National offices where he says that the Identity cards are taking longer than they have been taking earlier and thus inconveniencing their efforts of registering many persons.
The exercise continues until the end of this month.
