Aspiring Nyamira Governor Charles Mochama led a host of other politicians in paying tribute to Former North Mugirango/Borabu MP Okeri Masanya who succumbed to high blood pressure on Sunday night.
Masanya, a veteran politician from Nyamira served the larger North Mugirango/Borabu before it was split from 2002-07.
‘I am saddened with the death of Mr. Masanya, an elder and a respected politician from our county. This is an enormous loss to our community because he was a symbol of hope and peace amongst us,” Mochama said during an interview with this reporter.
Incumbent Borabu MP Ben Momanyi lauded the fallen politician for the role he played in initiating peace along Borabu-Sotik border, a region which is occasionally marred with cattle rustling and conflicts between Abagusii and Kipsigis communities.
“Personally I am really disappointed with the tragic news. He initiated the process of setting an anti-stock theft unit along Borabu-Sotik border and as the MP, I am happy that cases of cattle rustling have reduced drastically since then,” said Momanyi.
Aspiring Borabu MP Nyandoro Kambi on his official Facebook post described the veteran politician as a ‘friend’ to many and a lover of peace.
“It’s sad to wake up and receive news on the death of a friend to many and a lover of peace. May his soul live among us forever,” read the statement.
Masanya, a life member of Ford People party lost to Winfred Ombui in hotly contested 2007 elections.
