Parents and pupils of Mogusii primary school have called upon the area leadership to work in speed and ensure the school has undergone major repair following deplorable conditions that have seen more than 20 pupils drop out of the school due to jigger’s infestation.
Speaking on Friday at a 'baraza' in the village, parents led by elder Jackson Ongaga said area leadership had completely gone mum despite several reports to the respective authorities.
They urged the area leadership to chip in fast to ensure the situation is rectified over the holidays before classes resume in September.
“As parents, we have a message to our leadership. Our institution has been completely neglected and the conditions there are discouraging. Jiggers have infested the place and that is why we are calling for an urgent help. This should be done within this period when schools are closed,” he said.
They accused area MP Ben Momanyi of allegedly dismissing their plea despite promising to mend things when he assumed office.
“The area MP is taking us for granted and we are not ready for that. He had promised to repair the institution but nothing concrete so far has been done but we still require his help,” he added.
According to them, the institution risks closure due to deteriorating conditions of the latrines contrary to the Public Health Act.
“The latrines are also in an awkward condition. This is why we need aid to rectify the situation. The headteacher has done his best but he is yet to deal with situation,” he said.
