Former KTN investigative journalist Mohammed Ali popularly known as Moha Jicho Pevu has condemned the killing of two suspected robbers in Eastleigh, Nairobi last Friday. In an interview with eDaily, Moha said the shooting of the suspected thugs was horrific, adding that he had never backed police officers when it comes to extra-judicial executions. “What happened in Eastleigh is very sad; I condemn it in strongest terms possible. I have never supported extra-judicial executions,” he said. The reporter turned politician also said Kenya has a Constitution, adding that it is not right for police officers or any gun holder to kill another person unnecessarily.“The country should operate on premises of law; remember we are a sovereign State. No one – be it a law enforcer or licensed gun holder – should be allowed to shoot and kill another person unnecessarily, especially when there is a well laid procedure to follow when seeking justice,” he added. The Nyali parliamentary aspirant further said that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty as stated in the Constitution.“Every suspected offender has a right to defend himself in a court of law – and the rule of thumb states a suspect is innocent until proven guilty by a magistrate,” he added. The killing of the suspected thugs has continued to attract different reactions from leaders and Kenyans at large.
