Nyali MP, Mohamed Ali, has praised the government move to ban the importation, manufacture, advertising and sale of shisha in the country.

Ali says that the move is timely and will save thousands of young people who had been trapped by smoking shisha.

Speaking to journalists in Nyali Town on Thursday, the former Investigative reporter said that shisha smokers were unknowingly exposing themselves to health complications.

He noted that shisha smoking has turned young people into ‘zombies’, adding that the government move is welcomed.

The MP said that crime had started soaring as young people search for money to spend on shisha. He added that some families broken up as couples spend their time smoking shisha.

“The government has done the right thing and we welcome it as leaders but now the focus should be on how to rehabilitate those who have been addicted,” he said.

The MP asked youths to stay off the drug and substance abuse stating that it will destroy their lives.

He asked the government to pump more money into talent development and employment in order to prevent young people being lured to drug abuse.

The government through a gazette notice by Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Cleopha Mailu banned the importation, manufacture, advertising, and sale of shisha in the country.

In the Gazette notice, Mailu said that any person who will contravene the law will be liable to a penalty contemplated in section  163 of the Public Health Act.
