After weeks of muscle flexing between Lawyer Mohamed Faki and former Mombasa County Trade Executive for the ODM ticket to run for Mombasa Senator, the deadlock was finally unlocked after the former clinched the Orange ticket. After the repeat of the ODM nomination exercise on Saturday in three constituencies, Faki edged out his fiercest rival for the ticket after polling 11,135 votes against Mwaguya's 9,106.Confusion had earlier gripped the ODM camp in the county after the two rivals claimed victory with each one of them declaring himself the winner. However, the ODM's National Elections Board had to intervene to address the issue that was threatening to split the party.Mwaguya had threatened to lead a mass exodus from the Raila Odinga-led party if he was not issued with the nomination certificate. However, a repeat of the exercise proved to be the turning point in the party's Mombasa chapter which is perceived to be Raila Odinga's political turf.Following the win, Faki will now face Jubilee candidate Kassim Abdulsalam who had earlier clinched the ticket after edging out Mombasa Deputy Governor Hazel Katana.
