When the final whistle was blown signalling the end of the mouth-watering match, the room erupted in jubilation as the football lovers shouted Salah! Salah! Salah!
Never mind that the Egyptian king, as he is fondly referred to in some sections of the media, did not score a goal.
What mattered is that he had played a role in the progress of Liverpool thus far, offering them the opportunity to see his brilliance pitted against that of Christiano Ronaldo in Kiev.
Here in Garissa Township, Mohamed Salah is revered by the local youths who see him as a source of inspiration given the level of success he has been able to attain in his illustrious football career.
What's more, he has been an impeccable ambassador of the Islamic faith which scores of them profess.
''Salah is an inspiration to me. He teaches us that if you are determined, focused, humble and prayerful, you will succeed in spite of where you were born. He loves Allah and is not ashamed of his Islamic faith. I love him,'' Ahmed Sukre who lives in Garissa Township says.
Most of the youths in Garissa were born into grinding poverty and have been grappling with struggle and hardship.
It is the kind of struggle that the Egyptian soccer maestro faced in his early years growing up in a village in the Nile Delta.
His story gives them hope that one day things will change for them.
''I am as determined and putting in as much work as Mohammed Salah,'' 16-year-old Abdi Dulo says.
