In a thinly veiled attack on the former prime minister whom he has always referred to as his political mentor, the celebrated journalist said it is wrong for someone to try to use MPs as a bargainer over the pending supreme court petition.

"As far as I know the case before the supreme court is a presidential issue and does not relate to parliamentarians. It is wrong for someone to try to use that case to block his members from the swearing in ceremony", he told KTN News on Friday.

Ali further added that he would attend the August 31 event in line with what President Uhuru Kenyatta gazetted.

Famed for his 'Jicho Pevu' investigative documentaries, Ali quit the media world to contest the Nyali seat on August 8 which he won as an independent candidate after he lost in the ODM primaries.

The Nasa coalition MPs are mulling over a a move to skip the ceremony on grounds that president Kenyatta does not have the mandate to oversee the exercise owing to a petition challenging his legality as president.

They will however give a way forward on the matter by Tuesday next week.
