On Friday, Justice Lydia Achode upheld Ali's victory in the August 8, 2017 general elections, saying the petitioner lacked evidence to support his election petition.

"I'm for truth no matter who tells it. I'm for Justice no matter who it is for or against." Malcolm X made this statement as he faced an unjust system. I make it today because my victory gives me faith that when you truly are for truth and justice, even unjust motives can be overcome," said the former journalist.

He noted that his pledge has always been to work for a better Nyali.

"Today's petition victory confirms that on August 8th the people of Nyali voted for me with that same belief. Many thanks to Allah most merciful, and to my legal team for the hard work they put in," he added, and further hailed his lawyer Chacha Odera.

His rival, Said Saido has however vowed to appeal the ruling.
