Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has heeded to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s call for politicians to cease politicking and instead focus on development.
The Head of State on Thursday asked leaders to stop 2022 succession politics and instead concentrate on the pledges they made to the electorate in the last election.
“Let us keep this politics about 2022 aside. There will be 2022, 2027…and so on. We have just come from an electioneering period and everyone has a right to vie because that is the democracy we fought for, but after the election, we must look for a way to ensure everyone is accommodated,” Uhuru said during a function in Murang’a.
Moi, who is said to be eyeing the top seat, said he would not engage in the 2022 debate for now as his focus was on serving the people who elected him.
“I have no problem adhering to what the President said. Our primary aim now should be to respond to the needs of our people,” he said.
The KANU chairman added: “Let us work now, then later we will all table our scorecards and the people will decide. The issue of 2022 will be by the grace of God.”
He made the remarks on Saturday during the homecoming ceremony for Fafi Member of Parliament Abdikarim Osman.
Moi has been under pressure to declare his interest for the presidency from a number of lawmakers from Rift Valley region.
Among the MPs who have thrown their weights behind the KANU boss include Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), William Kamket (Tiaty), Vincent Tuwei (Mosop), Johana Ng’eno (Emurua Dikirr) among others.
