Speaking during the marking of the National Tree Planting Day in Samburu East on Saturday, Gideon endorsed the changes championed  by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

He as well hailed the recent reconciliation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, noting that the March 9 surprise event has been very successful, further endorsing their national unity initiative.

"We fully support the handshake as it's results are clearly visible unless you are in denial. The entire nation can attest to the fact that the reconciliation has been of great importance on matters calmness," he said.

"We are also in full support of the national unity campaign spearheaded by the two leaders as that remains one of the most important things we need now as a country," he added.

The function was also attended by a section of Odinga's allies led by his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Both the handshake and referendum calls are, however, facing opposition from Deputy President William Ruto's quarters, with his allies accusing Odinga of hiding behind the reconciliation to lay a foundation for his 2022 presidential bid.
