“The residents have right to protest and demand their dues from the company,” said Moi.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kambi Moto, Moi said that the GDC management has contravened their pledge to honour their agreement with locals.

“The GDC has breached the memorandum of the agreement with the residents, by the terms of the agreements the company is supposed to give back to the local community but it has failed to honour its pledge,” added Moi.

He further noted that the company must allocate 40% of job posts to locals, adding that the residents were within their constitutional rights to demonstrate, adding that social responsibilities by the company to residents has not been met.

“Locals are supposed to have 40% of all vacancies in the company but nothing has come forth, the company was supposed to cater for development of social amenities like building schools, providing water and building hospitals but nothing has happened,” said Moi.

Moi said that numerous meetings have been held to discuss the demands and chart way forward but none has materialised.

He urged the management of the state-owned corporation to find a permanent solution bedeviling the local communities especially the employment of youth.
